The Khmer Empire, Cambodia as its capital, was one of the most powerful Hindu-Buddhist empires in Southeast Asia. This empire began out of former Kingdom of Funan and Chenia. This empire ruled over majority of mainland Southeast Asia : Laos, Thailand, and some parts of Vietnam.
This kingdom was established in the 6th century, but was later divded in the 8th century, and re-united under the rule of Jayavarman II in the 9th century. This kingdom is largely influenced by Indian cultural beliefs and practices, which is what this museum aims to show.
